Its a 1999 Automatic Ford Galaxy. Any exploded images, manual scans or detailed instruction would be extremely useful. Thanks for your help. Quote
Andrew T Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 I copied and stored this when it appeared a few weeks ago. Remove the wheel, unplug the sensor wires and remove the spring clip off the caliperthe caliper is held onto the caliper mount by two bolts, remove the covers off these if fitted and remove the bolts, the caliper should now lift offthe inner pad is located in the piston by a spring clip on its rear, remove the pad and bin it, the outer pad should now pull out of the caliper carrier plate and join the other one in the binyou will need to reseat the piston back into the caliper, use a G clamp to force it back while turning the piston as you push, you will need to undo the bleed nipple to drain off the excess brake fluid,while doing this, DONT flush the fluid back up to the resivoir as you could damage or block a valve in the ABS pump by back flushing debri from the hoses/pipes back through the system!once the piston is back as far as it will go clip in the new pad, locate the outer pad and slip the caliper back into position, replace the bolts and plug in the sensor wirespump the brake pedal to reseat the piston and pads, check the fluid level and top up if needed? replace the wheel, lower the car and repeat on the other sideI think thats all you need to know? Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 Remove the scuttle tray sound deadner, then unplug the MAF and what ever else is connected to the air trunking, then remove the air trunking from the throttle body and remove the lid off the air filter box, with all that lifted out of the way it's fairly easy enough to get to the fluid reservoir, mind you thats on my VR6, I havent tried on a 2.3 yet! chicosi Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 I found retracting the pistons while turning them is a PITA - I'd to turn them for ages before they would go back. If I'd known beforehand I'd have bought the proper tool, I think Halfords do them for around a tenner. Quote

Maggot Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Brake pads on 2.3 Gals are easy BUT. -----------Get the piston retractor from Halfords --- Soooo much easier!!! You WILL use it again.It took best part of 40 mins to do one wheel with G clamp & pliers, borrowed the retractor from a friend -- took 30 mins to do the other 3!!!!!It is a 7mm allen key for the front caliper mountings. ***********Have Fun************ Quote
